Growing up as the "late lamb" of five children meant my childhood was a bit unconventional. My parents had their first four kids in their twenties, but by the time they welcomed me, they were in their forties. While the large age gap meant my siblings were already living in a different world, it came with a beautiful, unexpected perk: I got to grow up alongside my nieces and nephews. Instead of just being an aunt, I was a playmate, a confidante and a friend.

Among them was my niece, Keziah Tehillah. From the moment she was born, KT was a whirlwind of pure talent and joy. As a child, she spent her days creating; whether she was drawing intricate pictures for hours, experimenting with recipes in the kitchen, or writing letters back and forth with me in our diaries. Back then, I was a lead singer at my school and frequently had to perform in front of morning assemblies. I needed a practice partner, and KT became exactly that without even knowing it. Every time we saw each other, we would sing duets. I remember the sheer radiance on her face the day she got her first karaoke machine. From that moment on, she was unstoppable. She practised constantly and whenever our family gathered for a special occasion, KT would entertain with a full show, belting out covers like a seasoned star.

When I won a reality television show, KT was so chuffed that she invited me to her school to introduce me to everyone. I smile when I think of how she took my hand, walking me proudly down the corridors. The other kids and teachers were completely astonished to see such a young aunt, but to us it was our normal and in our minds we were twin sisters.

Fast forward and all that childhood practice has paid off in the most spectacular way. The little girl who used to faff about in the kitchen and sing into a karaoke microphone has grown into a strong, confident and deeply gifted woman. Today, KT is a successful musician, visual artist and businesswoman. She sings at many popular places and our family witnessed a dream of hers come true when she was interviewed and performed live on national television’s The Expresso Show. My heart is completely full when watching her command massive stages to crowds of fans.

KT is a living testament to what happens when you pursue your passions with courage as fate favours the fervently fearless. She uses her skills to make the world a brighter place and being her aunt is truly the greatest gift I could ever ask for. No matter how big the stages get, I will always be right here cheering you on KT my lady.
